High Plains Zone

“Can I help?” was the overwhelming tone of the High Plains Zone LWML Joy Shop. We rendezvoused in Laramie at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church for our annual April event with 24 attending. Pastor Shawn Kumm of Zion, Laramie, read Scripture commemorating St. Mark the Evangelist. Guest speaker Pastor David Magruder of Trinity Lutheran Church, Riverton, related his response to God’s call of service as chaplain to U.S. military troops in Afghanistan.  Our lunch conversations focused around Pastor Magruder’s experiences, the visual impact of his slides, and the Christ-loving sharing of his experiences.  Thank you, Laramie members for hosting the luncheon.

An ingathering of hygiene articles, snacks, and devotionals for the troops was sorted during the afternoon servant activity, while our Women in Mission wrote personal thank-you cards to the soldiers.  The local Wal-Mart, Bath & Body Works, and even a woman who delivers food to my office helped with donated items.  Yes, the Lord provided so much for us throughout this Saturday; and, then mightily underscored all of it when He provided a co-worker driving to Riverton on business who offered to deliver the bags to Trinity Lutheran LWML; where they were boxed for shipment to U.S. troops. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no can boast.  For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:8-10)

By the time this goes to press, the High Plains Zone LWML will have held its annual Fall Rally.  Cindy Anderson of King of Glory, Cheyenne, serving as our delegate at this past national convention in Portland, Oregon, will inspire all of us about the new mission and mite opportunities.  The zone’s six societies will summarize dedicated Christian service in their communities during annual reporting.  District LWML President Gerry Neeriemer will share Christ’s blessings of her own leadership as an honored visitor here in southeastern Wyoming.

And what about 2010?  I can’t wait to see what the Lord has in store for us as we prepare through His word for the District LWML Convention in Gering, Nebraska, focusing on Romans 5:1-2, faithfully, graciously, joyfully, full of peace and hope; serving the Lord with gladness.
